METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. After that we move the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we will not use high pressure because that will sometimes ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than needed to safely clean concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal professional.
